On June 1, 1887, at Jim Wilson's Ranch on Eagle Creek, south of Springerville, Arizona, Phin Clanton surrendered, but Ike resisted and was shot dead. What follows is a trial where lies are spoken but the truth comes out as Ike Clanton Robert Ryan attempts to thwart the efforts of Earp to prevent him from taking over everything. With Doc Holliday Jason Robards by his side, Wyatt forms a posse, and they won't rest until every member of the Clanton gang is dead. Jon Voight is also on hand in his debut film, portraying Curly Bill Brocious. Doc Holliday, a gambler who has been on the wrong side of the law himself more than once, assembles a posse to support the pursuit. Here, the director looks at the post-Gunfight struggle for political control of Tombstone, with a marvelous trio of antagonists: James Garner as Earp, Jason Robards as Holliday, and the sublime Robert Ryan as Ike Clanton. Both Garner and Robards take relish in their roles and give them life that some actors might simply walk through.
The movie is an entertaining western that provides plenty of action as well as scenic views of the wide open spaces. Synopsis Marshal Wyatt Earp kills a couple of men of the Clanton gang in a fight. He is as much an observer and commentator as he is a participant in the bloody events depicted in the film. Twilight Time offers the movie in a clean and beautiful presentation but with few extras. In the end this is how westerns were back then and it is a treat to watch as a fan of the genre. However, Ike Clanton is killed at the end of the earlier film during the Gunfight at the O. With only their standard 3,000 units made if you're looking for a copy pick one up before they're gone. Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas portrayed Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday, respectively, in the previous film. Earp returns to the Colorado sanitarium to visit the ailing Holliday and says goodbye to his unlikely friend, telling him this time he really is returning to Tombstone. Now it's his turn to seek revenge.

Besides Garner and Robards, the other standout element of Hour of the Gun is the music. John: I appreciate the second look that Sturges gave to the subject matter, which was obviously something that fascinated him. Corral Westerns were still in vogue in the sixties and many classics of the genre were made during this decade. I always liked James Garner and this is definitely, a different role for him. When he offers money to the man that takes out the Earps things begin to go worse for Clanton. Ike , a rustler, conspires to have the Earps charged with murder and tried in a court of law. Both the previous films add depth to the character relationship between Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday, and this movie adds yet another layer. As he leaves, though, Earp admits to a visiting Tombstone elder that he's leaving the Southwest altogether, intending never to be involved in law enforcement again. In revenge, Clanton's thugs kill the Marshal's brother. Doc Holliday kept hitting the bottle and wound up playing gin rummy in a Colorado sanitarium.
